4 Monochrome Celebrity Outfits & How To Wear Them This Fall

Black and white is a combination that never goes out of style. It’s always been in, but this season we’re seeing even more of it in the fashion crowd! It’s easy to guess why: it’s versatile, it’s flattering on everybody, and it makes you look instantly stylish. Let’s have a look at what some of our favorite celebrities are wearing these days, and see if we can find some inspiration in their looks. Spoiler alert: yes, we can!

Going out?

For special events, a dress is always a wise choice. Just don’t let it be boring! Carey Mulligan’s little black dress for the Venice Film Festival this year is a great example of how to update the classics. Her Miu Miu dress has a simple, fit and flare shape, but it’s adorned with a crisp white collar. Such a great effect! The actress kept things simple with no jewelry, and a pair of high-heeled, T-strap sandals. But the surprising parts in this whole look are the sunglasses. Not everyone dares wearing such cool, cat eye shaped frames with a retro appeal, and especially not on the red carpet! However, almost all fashion critics agreed that Carey pulled it off. You can get the look by adding a detachable collar to your old LBD, if you like playing the Lolita, like Carey does. High heels and a pair of cool shades, and you’ll be the talk of the evening!

Another option is Olivia Palermo’s outfit for an event in Sydney. The fashion icon went for a white ensemble, with a matching top and skirt. I know what you’re thinking: white, after Labor Day? And I say yes, if you do it Olivia’s way! She picked the cutest shoes, with colorful embroideries and pompoms, which would make (1) a great DIY project and (2) a great festive accessory! I think your shoe shelf would really benefit from such a makeover. More than that, Olivia played with a chunky, statement necklace and cuff, while opting for a very simple clutch and red nails. Effortless to the toe!

Headed for the office?

When it comes to work, black and white is by far the most popular combination. Won’t that make me look boring, you ask? And I’ll reply with another question: does Kate Hudson look boring to you? I didn’t think so. The blond actress wore Ann Taylor (read: not breaking the bank), and she looked like the epitome of the career woman. A black pencil skirt, a white blouse with a rounded neck (more feminine that the classic sharp collar), her hair in a ponytail, comfortable, but sexy wedges, and a pop of color in the form of orange sunglasses. The perfect office look! Plus it’s made of pieces you probably already own, so no need for crazy investments. One comment, though: no one could fit their work stuff into such a small bag! Go bigger.

Sophia Bush’s look might remind you of pajamas, and you wouldn’t be far from the truth. Nightwear is actually very trendy right now! However, we won’t encourage you to take this trend to work, not even on casual Fridays. Instead, take inspiration from the silhouette of this outfit: black, fitted pants and blazer over a white button-down shirt, a combination perfected by a pair of red stilettos. You don’t even need any more accessories to make this work! Perhaps just some red lipstick and your favorite earrings to complete the look.
